Engine Diagnostics

Advanced diagnostics to pinpoint engine issues accurately.

Professional Engine Diagnostics

Is your check engine light on? Don't ignore it. That warning could indicate a serious issue that, if left unchecked, might lead to costly repairs or even engine failure.

At C & J Auto Repair, we use state-of-the-art OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) scanning technology to read the codes your vehicle's computer stores when something goes wrong. This allows us to identify the exact problem quickly and accurately.

Our diagnostic process doesn't just read error codes — we perform a comprehensive analysis to understand the root cause, not just the symptoms. This means we fix the problem right the first time.

What We Check

  • Engine performance and power output
  • Emission system and catalytic converter
  • Fuel system and injector operation
  • Ignition system and spark plugs
  • Sensors (O2, MAF, MAP, TPS, etc.)
  • Transmission control systems

Common Issues We Find

🛢️

Loose or Damaged Gas Cap

One of the most common causes of check engine light. Often, simply tightening or replacing the gas cap resolves the issue. We check this first, free of charge.

O2 Sensor Failure

Oxygen sensors monitor fuel efficiency and emissions. A faulty sensor can reduce gas mileage by up to 40% and increase harmful emissions significantly.

🔧

catalytic Converter Issues

A failing catalytic converter can cause your car to run poorly, fail emissions tests, and lead to expensive damage if not addressed promptly.

❄️

Mass Airflow Sensor

This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. Problems cause poor acceleration, rough idle, and decreased fuel economy.

🔋

Spark Plug Issues

Worn spark plugs cause misfires, rough idling, and reduced power. We check and replace them as needed during every diagnostic visit.

🚗

Vacuum Leaks

Small vacuum leaks can cause major performance issues. We use smoke testing to locate and repair these elusive problems.

Our Diagnostic Process

1

Initial Consultation

We ask about any symptoms you've noticed — strange sounds, smells, or driving behaviors. This helps us focus our diagnostic efforts.

2

OBD-II Scan

We connect our diagnostic scanner to read all stored trouble codes and freeze frame data from your vehicle's computer.

3

Visual Inspection

Our technician performs a thorough visual inspection of engine components, wiring, hoses, and connectors.

4

Road Test (If Needed)

We test drive your vehicle to replicate the issue and verify proper operation after repairs.

Pricing

$89 / diagnostic visit

This includes full OBD-II scan, visual inspection, and detailed written report. If repairs are needed, diagnostic fee is waived with any repair over $200.
